I'm listening to a programme on National Radio about indigenous peoples and constitutions, particularly as instanced by recent changes in Bolivia and discussion about how this relates to NZ. It's all quite interesting, but also useful in how it has prodded my thinking. I suspect that it was quite a good thing that my careers meeting had to be delayed, because as it occurred to me last night, I hadn't thought much beyond jobs for me come May. The career planning workshop I went on had much emphasis upon where I want to go, and how I'm going to get there, what I need to do in order to be able to take opportunities when they arise. What I had put down was herbal medicine, but further thought tells me that I really can't actually imagine myself as WORKING in that field. It would be neat to have that as a link to the great-great-grandmother that shares my first and last names. I would love to have that knowledge and to be able to use it for family, friends, myself, but not as a professional. What seems to come up is that I would like to do more in the way of social anthropology and sociology. In my undergraduate study, I felt that biological anthropology and archaeology had more in the way of future direction, but social anthropology and sociology is what grabs me. Questions of inequalities and a more just distribution of power interest me. The way different cultures explain themselves, their world and how they interact interest me. So, what does this mean for my future, in employment or further study? Any ideas?

So, I'm off to Omori, which is a hole, but at this time of year it will hopefully be a hole with attractive young men swimming in it. Ahem. Will be back on the 1st of Jan or thereabouts, depending on if I get a better offer for new years than "Pretty Woman" with Jim and Kolby. For Christmas Santa brought me red converse, a book on F1, highlarious cricket collectors cards circa 1995 and a shirt which proves my mother should no longer be allowed to dress me. Will hopefully be back with piccies. |

I am finally more qualified today:D In particular, qualified to teach, and thus do the job I have been offered starting in late January. I will be heading to Dunedin (well Christchurch at least, I haven't booked my second ticket yet) on the 17th of Jan. Not yet sure when I will be back in Wellington yet, it could be that I can't come back until the 12th of Jan, annoyingly. I would complain about my mother leaving it so late to make appointments that we have to wait till the new year, but I love her really. But it's still vaguely irritating. Mmmm not really much else to tell. Am in places that were warm when I was in Wellington, but apparently I brought thecold temperatures and cloud with me:( Supposed to warm up again by Christmas day though, so metservice are promising anyway. So yeah, yay, finally finished with T-col. Once I get my certificate, I shall never have anything to do with them ever again. Possibly the best Christmas present ever. Happy Christmas everyone!!!

I hold the words of Julian of Norwich as an Anvil-Resistant[0] Umbrella above all of those who have need of it. To all of you dealing with illness or injury (your own or in someone you are close to); to those facing the threat of job loss, foreclosure or other financial disaster brought about by the credit crunch; to those who are separated from your loved ones by distance or death; to those dealing with any one of a million human tragedies, great and small, that are being amplified by the holiday season -- there is room for you. (There are also hugs and/or words of reassurance for those who want them. Anonymous commenting is turned on and IP logging turned off, for those who do not wish the world to know.) So here's how our household works, most of the time. DH, being the one with the more flexible work schedule, cooks on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I cook on the weekend and Monday. Them as cooks washes the dishes, and Agent Weasel dries them. Now. Last night I left some dishes unwashed because I knew I'd be cooking tonight and finishing them up. All good. Except I was asked to do an hour's overtime at work, which would make scheduling hairy for cooking dinner at a reasonable time, and I also had study and laundry to do besides the dishes. So I rang the DH and asked him if he would please cook in my stead, and I would take over Thursday night (I have tests after work tomorrow and Wednesday). When I got in I said to DH that I'd do the dishes to say thank you (and because there were some of "mine" that I'd left unwashed). He pointed out that I was pretty tired, and still had laundry and study to do, so he'd do the dishes to give me time and spoons for a read-through of my notes. So I've done laundry and read my notes, and still have enough time and spoons to write this: Thank you, DH. Things like this are one of the big, huge reasons I love you. You are a Hero of the Revolution and I adore you. So there.
